Let’s consider how you select what you eat. If you take the easy way and follow your lower desires, you’ll be eating fast food or frozen food pretty much every day. It tastes good, it’s easy, and it’s cheap.
But if you start to notice the effects on your body, you’ll quickly understand that these foods are not so good for you. You don’t even need to do any bloodwork; notice your body and you’ll be able to tell.
You’ll probably feel worse, gain weight, and feel more sluggish. You might quickly decide that it’s a good time to start thinking about your diet. So you become more conscious about your intake of food. Maybe your diet won’t be perfect, but it becomes much better.
Many people these days think a lot about their diet and what they eat overall—as we all should since it’s the fuel for our bodies. But unfortunately, much less thought is placed into what goes on inside our minds.
Just think about what happens when you start to see a lot of negative news, videos, articles, etc. You start to become more negative yourself.
In the same way, if you see many angry videos, people, articles, etc., you start to become angrier yourself.
How you choose to direct your attention will shape your mind and energy.
More than this, you can notice how your energy is automatically directed toward certain types of content. This will also tell you what you have inside yourself.
Think of the content you consume — regardless if it’s videos, TV shows, articles, books, or movies — like the food you are eating. Are you “eating” healthy, or are you eating junk food?
Your attention is one of the guardians of your mind. Use it wisely.
