An important question I was asked this week was:
“What’s the difference between the flow state and the will state?”
Both concepts may appear similar but there are important differences between each.
We’ve spoken about the Will State at length in our previous video and in some posts before.
So by now you know that we can consider the Will state as a way to apply our Will in it’s full capacity. A way to truly connect with it.
It links our body, mind and energy in an harmonious and fully conscious state. Not of effort, but of congruence and flow.
And the “flow state” as defined by the wikipedia is:
“is the mental state of operation in which a person performing an activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity. In essence, flow is characterized by complete absorption in what one does, and a resulting loss in one’s sense of space and time.”
It may seem similar and we can often get lost in the theoretical concepts but there are important differences between both.
In the flow state you’re not exactly connecting mind, body and energy in a powerful way.
You are fully absorbed, but not exactly feeling powerful. You are engaged, and somewhat connecting the mind, body and energy but on a weak way.
We can consider the flow state as a weak Will State. Or a Will State without the Will. You don’t exactly need the Will to enter a flow state.
The Will state is often the flow state + sense of power and Will. You decide what you want to do, and you mobilize all your intention in that direction.
No confusion or ambivalence. Just a complete unification of mind, body and energy.
More important than the theoretical concepts is your own practical applications and understanding of these states.
This is not theory, it’s practice. You are differentiating between what you are feeling inside and learning how you can feel (and distinguish) between the different states.
If you think you are in a Will state when you lack the power element, then not much use will come out of it when you actually need of a stronger use and you’ll quickly dismiss it.
