Control of your sexual impulses

Our body’s impulses can be incredibly strong. When emotions take over, our rational thinking takes a hit, often leading to poor decisions.

Think about what happens when you feel angry, jealous, or sad — just to name a few examples. Your heart beats faster, your mind races, and before you even realize it, your body is reacting on its own.

Anger might push you to say or do things you later regret. Jealousy can make you focus on what you lack instead of what you have. Sadness can feel like a heavy weight, making even simple things seem difficult.

Sexual impulses work the same way.

Like any strong emotion, they come naturally and can feel intense. Your heart races, your thoughts narrow in, and your body responds before you’ve had time to think.

If left unchecked, these impulses can lead to choices you might regret — just like anger can make you lash out or jealousy can cloud your judgment. In the moment, they may feel urgent, but acting on them without awareness can create problems down the line.

But the answer isn’t to ignore, fear, or repress these impulses.

It’s to understand them.

The more aware you become of your impulses, emotions, and energy, the less control they have over you — especially as you learn to work with the energy behind them.

By getting curious about these impulses, observing them within yourself, and noticing what triggers them, you can find healthier ways to respond.

This is the essence of working with sexual energy — it’s simply the exploration of your own desires and impulses, and how they manifest in your body and mind.
