We all have behaviors, desires, or impulses we don’t fully understand. Sometimes, we find ourselves doing things we don’t actually want to do.
For instance, you might experience anxiety without knowing its source. Maybe you’re overeating, caught in cycles of rumination, or engaging in other habits you can’t seem to break.
More often than not, we’re only aware of the effects — we notice the behavior itself but don’t take the time to understand or explore its root causes.
By exploring, I don’t mean going online to research symptoms or explanations. It’s about diving deep within yourself. What is triggering this behavior? How does it show up in your energy and body?
You might already be aware of your thoughts, but what about your energy? What about the subtle impulses driving you toward this behavior?
If you pay attention, you’ll notice a link in your body — an impulse, a desire, or something else — that propels the behavior. This impulse pushes you to seek the only way you know to satisfy it, which is through that specific action.
Take passive-aggressiveness, for example. You might feel an aggressive impulse inside but don’t know how to handle it directly. The only outlet becomes passive-aggressive behavior: backhanded compliments, sarcasm, excuses, and so on.
Rather than repeating this cycle, take a closer look. Observe that initial impulse of aggression. What is this energy? Where is it located within you? What blocks it? Where are the energy blocks that prevent this energy from flowing naturally? And what impulses does this blockage create?
Once you begin to understand these elements, you can start to heal and change them. You’ll explore the connection between your energy, body, and mind at a deeper level.
By conducting this kind of self-exploration, new possibilities for self-control and behavioral change will emerge. However, to do this effectively, you need a vocabulary and a foundation — you need to learn the “alphabet” of energy awareness. That’s exactly what we focus on in our two courses: Vitality and Energy Training and Advanced Energy Science.
