Should you give in to your desires — whether they’re for food, sexual satisfaction, or anything else? Or should you resist them? How can you manage your desires?
First, you need to understand how your energy works. Sometimes, due to internal factors (often just natural cycles rather than any external cause), energy builds up in a specific area of the body, prompting a particular action.
A simple example is hunger. When your stomach feels empty, it creates a sensation — a slight contraction — that urges you to eat.
So, if we break it down, there are three elements at play:
1. An internal movement of energy
2. An impulse to act
3. The actual behavior
When we suppress an impulse, we’re also suppressing the energy behind it. And we can certainly do this with willpower. You’ve likely done it countless times, whether resisting dessert or pushing yourself out of bed for a jog.
In small doses, this is harmless. However, when repression becomes the primary way we handle our energy, it can start working against us. Constantly suppressing energy often redirects it in ways that don’t benefit us.
On the other hand, if you give in to every impulse, you’re simply reacting like an animal to your body’s basic signals. There’s no freedom in that — you’re just a servant to your body’s demands.
Fortunately, we have awareness and consciousness. We can feel the energy and the impulse, allowing it to be there without repressing it and without immediately acting on it. You can even enjoy this sensation, letting the energy flow within you as if it’s already fulfilled.
This approach not only prevents repression but also preserves your freedom. You’re no longer a slave to impulses — you can actually work with the energy.
This is what you’ll learn in the Advanced Energy Science course.
