In the previous post, we talked about radical honesty — about listening to our energy and impulses instead of creating stories and justifications for our behaviors and actions.
When we practice this, we create a new way of interpreting ourselves. You no longer need to come up with a story or justification to make sense of what you’re feeling. You can own your feelings without being a slave to them.
The problem arises when we deny, repress, or ignore our energy. Mental justifications and stories are ways we do this.
For example, suppose you feel an unpleasant contraction in your chest whenever you interact with someone you’re attracted to but create a story in your mind that they don’t like you because of [insert any reason here]. In that case, you’re just repressing what you’re truly feeling.
As you can imagine, this won’t help you overcome it. Even if you manage to get past the initial story you’ve created, you’ll likely invent a new one.
The real issue is the energetic contraction, and exploring and healing it is essential. Only with radical honesty — full transparency about what’s really happening inside of you — can you allow the energy to flow freely. Otherwise, your mind will keep coming up with stories and rationalizations.
By becoming aware and honest with yourself, you can take ownership of your feelings rather than being controlled by them. If you deceive yourself or simply act on impulses without reflection, then you’re just a slave to that energy.
But it doesn’t have to be that way.
You can experience an emotion, impulse, feeling, or energy without necessarily acting on it. Your willpower should be the true compass that guides your actions, not random impulses.
However, to reach this point, you need complete honesty to face your feelings, impulses, and energy.
