Not every contraction is a block

One of the more nuanced aspects of the magnetic work is learning to tell the difference between a contraction that needs to be cleared and one that is actually trying to tell you something useful.

Not every energetic contraction is a block… some of them are signals. And treating a genuine signal as a block to be pushed through can lead you in exactly the wrong direction.

A defensive contraction, the kind that comes from old patterns, unresolved wounds, and identity structures built around protection, tends to have specific qualities: it is familiar, it shows up consistently across different situations and different people, it does not carry specific information about the present moment so much as it carries the weight of accumulated past experience.

When you feel this kind of contraction, the situation in front of you is often just a trigger for something that was already there long before it arrived.

A genuine boundary signal feels different: it tends to be more specific, more present-tense, more tied to something actually happening in the interaction rather than to a general pattern inside you.

It might show up as a clear sense that something is off about a particular person, that a situation is moving in a direction that does not feel right, or that something is being asked of you that genuinely conflicts with who you are and what you value.

This kind of signal is worth listening to rather than unblocking.

The problem is that the two can feel similar on the surface, especially early in this work when your ability to read your own energy is still developing.

Both involve a tightening, a contraction, a sense of resistance. Distinguishing between them requires a degree of honest energetic self-inquiry that gets easier with practice but is rarely straightforward at the beginning.

A useful question to sit with when a contraction arises is whether it is specific or general: does it carry information about this situation, this person, this moment? Or does it feel like a familiar weight that would have shown up in a similar situation regardless of who was involved?

The first points toward a signal while the second points toward a pattern.

This distinction also matters for magnetism because it requires being open to real signals rather than overriding everything in the name of clearing blocks.

Someone who has done real energetic work is not someone who has eliminated all contractions. This person can read his own energy accurately enough to know the difference between what needs to move and what needs to be respected.

If you want to develop the ability to read your own energy at this level and work through the contractions that genuinely need clearing, “The Unblocking Process” is the training designed for exactly that.
