Although the process used to understand these elements is a scientific and exhaustive process, these teachings aren’t bound by current science.
Otherwise, the very concept of energy, crucial to all our teachings, would have to be eliminated.
Just because current scientific knowledge can’t yet measure it, it doesn’t mean it should be discarded.
Especially when so many ancient traditions have used it in accurate and reliable ways. Chinese Medicine, Ayurvedic Medicine, Yoga, among others. The concept of energy is present in all of them.
And they are far from outdated.
If anything, they are stripped away from their essential elements. In the past they had a much stronger emphasis on energy, and now, with the hope of being “westernized”, certain energy elements were eliminated losing much of its strength.
You need to study the effects of these practices without pre-conceptions and limiting beliefs. A negative state of mind can negatively impact everything you do, Especially in something so subtle as energy.
This is not to say that you should have a wishful thinking or a “blind follower” kind of mind. Not at all.
What you need is an ever permanent “beginner’s mind”, or “Shoshin” as Zen Buddhism defines it. Which details an attitude of openness, eagerness, and lack of preconceptions when approaching a subject,
Shunryu Suzuki said:
“In the beginner’s mind there are many possibilities, in the expert’s mind there are few.”
That’s what you should always strive for, regardless if you are studying personal magnetism or playing the piano.
