In the previous emails (here and here), we talked about two common reasons for procrastination. The first is fear of failure and how it threatens your self-image. The second is emotional pain: when a task stirs up old wounds or uncomfortable feelings, it’s natural to avoid it.
There are other causes too: distractions, poor sleep, lack of structure, or just feeling overwhelmed. But more often than not, fear and pain are at the core.
So what can you actually do to move forward?
The worst approach is to give in to the procrastination without asking why you’re avoiding something.
That keeps you stuck in the same loop.
Procrastination isn’t just a mental habit, it can also show up in your body too. It often feels like emotional or energetic resistance. If you pay attention, you’ll notice it.
Start by asking yourself a few honest questions:
What am I afraid might happen if I fail?
What am I trying to protect?
Does this task bring up something painful?
Am I clinging too tightly to an idea of who I think I should be?
As you reflect, notice how your body reacts. You might feel tension, restlessness, or discomfort.
These are signals.
They’re pointing to something deeper that might need your attention.
Procrastination doesn’t mean you’re lazy or broken… and calling yourself someone who “just can’t follow through” won’t help.
Sometimes your mind is simply saying, “This feels like a threat,” or “I’m not ready.”
You don’t need to ignore that voice but you don’t have to let it take over either. You can listen, understand it, and still choose to act.
Even a small step helps… you don’t need to push yourself hard, just be honest about what’s holding you back, and take one gentle step forward.
When you stop seeing procrastination as a personal flaw and start seeing it as a defense, you give yourself a chance to gain clarity, build courage, and change.
To support you with this, we’ve created a course called The Unblocking Process. It walks you through each step, helping you uncover what’s really holding you back and how to release it so you can finally move forward.
