Most of the time, in our daily life, we are simply reacting to our impulses: hunger, tiredness, messages, work, friends, comfort, routine… we respond to whatever pops up.
That’s our instinctive, animal layer and it isn’t wrong. If you don’t eat or sleep, you die. If you never rest or socialise, you suffer. These surface-level impulses matter for survival and basic well-being.
But if you only live there, you’re not truly choosing or acting… you’re reacting.
When we talk about intention – like we do in the 10 Steps to Inner Power -, we talk about waking up from that automatic state. Instead of being dragged around by impulses, you learn to notice them, understand them, and choose consciously. You stop being just an animal responding to urges and start becoming a person directing your life from within.
Intention connects your surface actions to something deeper – your Will.
The Act of Will – as we described previously – is when you deliberately override comfort, instinct, or habit to commit yourself to something you decide is important. It could be something simple like taking a cold shower or something demanding like speaking in public. You decide, and then you unify your energy, body, and mind behind that decision. It’s you consciously choosing a direction instead of letting circumstances and habits choose for you.
In a much higher level, we have our true Will and the actions that come from there.
While the actions described above (eating, sleeping, socializing, etc) are more or less common to all humans (and animals as well), your true Will is something else. Your true Will isn’t just what you think you want — it’s the authentic calling of your soul. It moves beyond animalistic survival actions, your needs, ego-driven ambitions and societal expectations, guiding you toward a purpose that makes you feel aligned, purposeful, and alive.
It’s not about external validation but an inner knowing, an inner compass pointing toward what truly matters.
We can say that while eating, sleeping, socializing, are important for your survival, these higher level actions of your true Will, it’s a higher expression of yourself.
In other words, while survival keeps you alive, the connection with your Will makes you thrive.
