There’s often a disconnect between our mind and body. We might think we fully understand something or that our decision is firm, but then our body has other plans.
If I had a dime for every time a student thought they had everything figured out, only to connect with their body and uncover a whole world of repressed energy that shifts their decisions once it’s allowed to flow, I’d be rich.
Consider a decision we need to make in life. We “think” through it, arriving at a rational conclusion. The problem is, that we forget our body also has a say in the matter.
Maybe the logical decision points one way, but deep down, it’s not what we truly want. This is where our body and energy rebel: we start feeling uneasy, anxious, or even sick.
We don’t do this on purpose or out of bad intentions. It’s simply how we were raised — to think our way through decisions.
Of course, we all want to be happy and fulfilled. But happiness isn’t something we can logically deduce or rationalize. As much as our rational mind tries to make sense of it, that’s just one part of a much more complex system.
We often focus mostly on the mind, neglecting the body. We treat them as separate entities — engaging in either physical exercise or intellectual work as if they operate independently.
But that’s a serious mistake.
There’s no real separation. “Mind over matter” doesn’t work the way we might think. Mind and body must work together to achieve our desired happiness and fulfillment.
That’s why becoming aware of our energy is so important. It’s the link between our mind and body, the way we connect them. Once you learn to work with your energy, you’ll realize how crucial it is not to ignore your internal and bodily signals.
