In times like these, where most of us are in confinement with unpredictable changes happening in the world, there’s only one way you can keep your sanity:
Let go of what you CAN’T control and focus on what you CAN control.
There’s nothing you can do about the world economy (unless you are a big time powerful banker or the head of a country), or developing a vacine for the corona virus (unless you are a medical researcher).
So there’s no use to allow yourself to be filled with anxiety about it.
You can stay updated with the news – within limits of course – to make sure you know what’s happening in the world, but don’t let the anxiety take hold of you.
This can happen quite easily these days. We just need to turn on the news to imagine all kinds of catastrophic scenarios.
It doesn’t mean that anything will happen… truth is, no one knows the future and what will happen.
So don’t let your mind wander on how the future will be. Focus on what you can control now and what you can actually do now – at the present moment -, to make the best of a bad situation.
Remember that your sphere of action is way smaller than the world economy or the creation of a vaccine. And if you can’t control any of it, you need to let go of your anxiety related to these aspects.
Focus on what you can control. Focus on your self, family and friends and others that you keep in contact with. Focus on what you can do, on what you can improve in yourself, or help someone else close to you.
But above all, let go of what you can’t control.
