Willingness to find whatever is actually there

In the previous email we looked at the difference between clearing a block and building a mask over it, and why so many people do years of energy work and still feel fundamentally unchanged underneath.

This email takes that idea one step further: how can you avoid it?

The answer is simpler to say than it is to live: radical honesty with yourself.

For most people this simply means a type of comfortable introspection, but what I’m talking about here is the kind that stays present when what it is showing you is inconvenient, unflattering, or directly threatens the story you have been telling yourself about who you are.

This is where most energetic development work stops short.

There is a point in almost every honest internal inquiry where the investigation starts to touch something that the identity needs to protect: maybe it’s a belief about yourself that you have built a significant amount of your self-concept around, or a pattern that, if seen clearly, would require you to revise something fundamental about how you understand yourself… and at that point, most people without realizing it, shift from honest and genuine inquiry into a more comfortable kind of self-examination, one that circles the territory without ever fully entering it.

The mask gets built precisely here!

The block is sensed but not fully met, so something gets constructed to manage the gap instead.

And because the construction often produces some real improvement on the surface, it gets mistaken for the real work.

Radical honesty means being willing to look at your actual behavior and your actual energetic reactions without immediately reaching for an explanation that protects your identity.

But remember that this is not what you intended to do, not what you would have done in better circumstances, not what the behavior means about the difficult situation you were in, but what the behavior itself is showing you about what is actually running underneath.

Without the protective layer of self-concept getting in the way.

This does not require self-criticism or harsh self-judgment. Those are actually another form of protection, another way of keeping the identity without change.

The clearing that produces real and lasting change in your magnetism always starts here. With a quality of self-honesty that does not need the outcome of the inquiry to be flattering. That is willing to find whatever is actually there, rather than what it was hoping to find. Everything else builds on that willingness, or it doesn’t build at all.
