Your two natures

William Walker Atkinson wrote:

“Everyone has two natures. One wants us to advance and the other wants to pull us back. The one that we cultivate and concentrate on decides what we are at the end.”

We choose our path everyday.

By choosing to be browsing the internet instead of doing what you need to do, you are choosing your path.

By choosing to skip your morning exercise to snooze in bed, you are choosing your path.

By choosing to back down when you should stand your ground, you are choosing your path.

These apparently “minor choices” when done over and over again become YOU. They become your personality and your habitual way of moving through to the world.

They become a default way to behave.

You choose the nature to pull you back instead of the nature to move you forward.

But these are not mandatory behaviors you have. They are choices and behaviors you cultivate.

It seems harder to do your morning exercise rather than hit the snooze button in bed. But in reality, the opposite is much harder.

Getting up instead of hitting the snooze is hard on the short term and easy on the long term. Hitting the snooze is easier on the short term and harder on the long term.

The cultivation of your own ability to move you forward is one of the traits you can have that will make the most difference in your life.

And, best of all, it can be cultivated starting right now… with the small behaviors you are doing everyday.
