Following your impulses

In life, you have two choices when deciding something: live according to your Will or according to someone else’s will.

Either you consciously and willfully decide what you will do or someone else will decide for you.

It doesn’t need to be an actual physical person in front of you that makes this decision.

Sometimes it’s your own internal representation of that person or group of people.

It’s like you have a voice inside that represents another person and you’re following along.

Probably that’s not what you would want for your life. But you’re behaving according to it anyway.

What most people don’t know is that they can control what goes on inside their minds. They can become aware and they can change what is inside – and also what is outside.

Your mind often sends impulses to your body to do something. It can be to procrastinate and open netflix, or it can be to do something that goes against your best interests.

It’s strange how something inside of you is pulling you to do something against your best interests. But it’s not just with you. It’s with everyone.

Because we’re all a melting pot of different influences – your parents, teachers, friends, siblings, culture, TV, etc. And all these influences are still inside of us. Some of them more harmful than others.

But it’s up to you to shape and control them.

Just because you have an impulse to do open netflix, or to whatever procrastination activity you use to do, it doesn’t mean you have to follow it.

But you do need to become aware of it. Without becoming aware of that impulse you won’t be able to control it. You’ll just blindly follow it.

That’s why the more aware you are of everything that happens inside of you, the more control you’ll gain over your life.
