The discipline of a master

The legendary graphic designer Massimo Vignelli wrote:

“It is through discipline that we are able to improve ourselves, mentally and physically; to offer the best of ourselves to everything around us, including every project on which we work.”

Pretty much all those who achieve success and mastery on any field will tell you the same thing.

Discipline and commitment to what you are doing is an essential aspect of any work and the way to become the best version of yourself.

Why is this so? Why do you need the discipline?

It all seems easy when you have the initial motivation. The initial motivation to start a business, a project, a training routine.

You eagerly wake up every morning and jump out of bed to accomplish what you had set out to accomplish.

It doesn’t matter if it’s 5am and it’s raining. It’s easy to jump out of the bed and go jogging.

This is not where you need the discipline.

You have the initial motivation and the eagerness to accomplish, little discipline is needed here.

The problem is later.

After a few weeks, months or years, when another interesting project or idea gathers your attention or when things start going astray. When you are tired. When your project stops going according to the initial plan and you need to fix it. When things don’t go your way.

When the initial motivation has died is when the discipline and Will come into play.

Up until that point, everything was easy.

You didn’t had to focus your thoughts and apply your Will. It came natural with the initial surge of motivation.

But when you don’t have this any longer, you will actually need the discipline to keep going. To keep on the same path as opposed to change to a brand new path (where the motivation will be naturally higher).

This is what we work in the Inner Power training.

The ability to cultivate your own internal power to keep going despite what is happening on the outside or your motivation levels. With inner power, you generate your own motivation without falling prey to fake boosts.

And that’s a fundamental trait for anyone who wished to perform and BE at their best.
